倉敷エル・グレコ
友と数十年ぶりの再会を果たし倉敷の町を訪ねることになった。この町を訪ねるのも数十年ぶりだ。町が何となく綺麗になって土産物屋が増えたかと思うが印象は昔と変わらないし、京都で一緒に机を並べた彼との友情も変わらない。午後からの雨にも気づかずレトロで趣のある喫茶店で時間の経つのも忘れて話した。あれから東欧や中東、アフガニスタンで大きな戦争がありアフリカでも内戦が続いて、世界は差別と偏見、破壊と殺戮、テロと大量の難民、貧富格差拡大と国民の分断、貿易摩擦と保護主義、原発と核の脅威、地球温暖化とあまりに変わってしまった。
僕らがベトナム反戦を訴えてからこのような世界になるまえに、僕らは何をすべきだったのだろう？ 何をしてはいけなかったのだろう？ いまも答えを見つけられずにいる。
Kurashiki “EL GRECO”
I visited Kurashiki because of the encounter an old friend after 50 years’ absence. It was also 50 years from my latest visit this city. There were no changes in my impression from that time except the city became neat somehow and increased souvenir stores. And our friendship since studying together in Kyoto remained unchanged too. Even though it rained in the afternoon, we talked so long time in aesthetic old fashioned tea-room. After our graduation, the world has incredibly changed, so as discrimination and prejudice, destruction and massacre, terrorism and mass-refugee, inequality between the rich and the poor, separation of the nation, trade friction and protectionism, power plant and nuclear threat, environment pollution and global warming, while there were large war in Eastern Europe, Middle East and Afghanistan, and more the internal war had repeated in Africa.
I’m not able to find the answer even now what we should do before the world changes like this from that time when we fought against Vietnam War.
