房州白浜、野島埼灯台
 敗戦後の日本は食べるにも困るほど貧しく、雨が降れば下水は溢れ道路はぬかるみ衛生状態も悪かった。だから「あの時代は良かった」などとは決して言わない。        
 昭和20年8月15日は、丸山眞男に言わせれば「超国家主義の全体系の基盤たる国体がその絶対性を喪失し今やはじめて自由なる主体となった日本国民にその運命をゆだねた日」※であり、人々の心は便利で豊かな現代の生活の中で感じる閉塞感とは無縁の、まだ自粛や自主規制などという馬鹿げた言葉も知らず開放感にあふれていた
 ここ房州白浜から御宿にかけては伊勢海老、サザエ、アワビ、ウニなど海の幸に恵まれ海女の活躍する場所で、イタリア映画「にがい米」に登場する女性の美しい肢体を思わる彼女らの姿は、まさに自由でのびのびしていて戦時中の抑圧からの解放のシンボルのようでもあり、灯台の見える景色と一体であった。

※丸山眞男「超国家主義の論理と心理」(1946年)戦後いち早く戦前の政治精神を解明した丸山の功績を評価するが、このように「暗い戦前」と「明るい戦後」を対比する思考に与しないし、そもそも「天皇の赤子」たる大多数の日本人が一夜にして「自由なる主体」になれるわけがない。所詮ブルジョワ知識階級的思考と言わざるを得ない。

 After the World War II, It was as poor as to eat meal due to food scarcity in Japan and the road was muddy if it rained, in addition, the hygienic status was very bad. And so I do never say “it was good old days” in those days.
According to Professor Maruyama, August 15th of 1945 was the day of the fundamental character of state, lost the foundation of total system of ultra-nationalism, yield the destiny to the Japanese nation to be free independence.* The mind of the people was full of a feeling of liberation, free from a feeling of hopelessness which was experienced by the people living in the present age without knowing the ridiculous word “self-restraint” or “voluntary refrains”.   
 From here, Shirahama, to Onjuku, it is rich place for turban shells, abalones and sea urchin eggs where many woman divers have been played an active part. Their truly beautiful free and glaring body and limbs which make us imagine a heroine in Italian movie “Riso amaro (Bitter Rice)” were seemed as the symbol released from the oppression during the war, and blended into the lighthouse scene.

 I highly appreciate his effort which promptly made clear Prewar Japanese political psychology after the war, but I don’t side with his opinion which contrast “the dark pre-war” with “the bright post-war”. Anyway, it might be impossible to change himself to independent subject only in one night because of the greater part of Japanese people at that time believed to be a baby of the Tenno (Emperor). After all his view belongs to the thought of the educated class in bourgeoisie.
